Rescue at last

Perspective; Simon's Ghost

As I watch Jack and his savages prepare their attack on Ralph, I can see Ralph figuring out where to hide. As the savages continue preparing to hunt Ralph, I spot Ralph finding a spot where the boulder that killed Piggy is. But the previous night when Ralph decides to check in on Jack's tribe and talk to Samneric. In hopes that they are still on his side he risks being caught, to his relief they were forced to join Jack's tribe. They had to join them because they had been captured earlier that day when the boulder had killed Piggy.

While Ralph is at Castle Rock checking on Samneric, they give him some information about how Jack's tribe plans to hunt Ralph down. They said that Roger had made a stick with both sides sharpened to be able to pierce and harm Ralph easier. Then someone from the tribe starts to head over to where they were talking, from what I could see I believe it was Roger. Then when Ralph was just about to jump down; Sam thrust on to him a chunk of meat from their feast.

Continuing what I saw before; when the savages find out where Ralph is hiding and failing to capture him a couple times, they flush him out by setting the whole island on fire. While I watch the island catch on fire. When they smoke him out I watch him run to the beach, there he discovers the Naval officer there with a plane. I watch as all the boys start to emerge from the thicket; painted, scratched, bruised, and spear carrying. Percival Madison Williams steps out and walks to the Naval Officer trying to remember his name, address, etc but he can't. The pain and the death has erased it from his mind.

The Naval Officer looks around at the boys and jokingly asks 'What were they doing? Having a war?' Ralph solemnly replies with a yes, while the Naval Officer takes it as a joke. The Officer adds 'Is anyone dead?' Ralph replies with 'Only 2 but their bodies are gone.' The Officer then realizes that Ralph wasn't joking, while he on the other had was. When he asks who is leader of the group, Jack tries to step up, but hesitates while Ralph steps up saying it's him. I could tell that the Naval Officer was disappointed in the boys because he asks if they are all British and they say yes. I'm pretty sure he was expecting more from his British comrades.

Chapter 11; Castle Rock

1. Piggy says that Ralph should blow the conch and call an assembly with the boys, even though they are savages.
2. Piggy told Jack to give his glasses back to him for 3 reasons; they belong to him, its the right thing to do, and that once Jack too them he couldn't see anything.
3. Ralph says that they should look like when they first got to the island when they approach Jack's tribe. To show that they are more civilized and sophisticated.
4. When the boys approached Castle Rock Roger challenged them.
5. When Jack appears he is carrying a beheaded and paunched sow that he had killed.
6. Ralph called Jack a thief for stealing Piggy's glasses.
7. After the fight the savages were ordered to tie up Samneric.
8. When the fight came to a cessation and Piggy was pleading for order again Roger was throwing pebbles at Piggy and Samneric. He missed on purpose though.

#9
I believe that Roger is responsible for Piggy's death since he was the one who let the boulder loose from the hill. From what I read in the previous chapters I could tell that Roger was becoming delirious with the hunger to hurt something, or someone. He was also becoming even more evil as each day passes; like when he was throwing stones at people, we all knew he wanted to hurt something was strong but he couldn't really bring himself to do so before. He was itching to hurt someone so bad that he pushed the boulder off the cliff on purpose, knowing that it would hurt someone at the bottom, not caring who it was. He also knew that Piggy was blind and couldn't defend himself against the boulder even if he knew it was coming. He wasn't really fond of Piggy, and neither was Jack, who was the closest thing to a friend Roger had. With all that evidence given Roger wouldn't feel bad about truculently killing Piggy, in fact he might even be happier with out him around

After view

Dear Journal,

I never thought that I would die so soon in my life, or by the people whom I trusted and thought were my friends. I didn't think that my friends could be caught up in evil doings. Even Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric danced with Jack, their cuts and bruises prove they did. Even if they claim they weren't there the proof is on their faces. The most outrageous part is that Ralph and Piggy don't want to believe that they took part in my death. They just try to convince themselves that they were on the outside of the circle watching. Especially when Samneric emerge from the forest claiming they got lost and left early because they were 'tired'.

Jack, on the other hand, doesn't seem bothered at all about what he and his hunters did. While I watch him and his savages in their village I wonder what happened to make him barmy. His ridiculous excuse that he tells his savages was that I was a beast in disguise. He also tells them that the real beast is still out in the forest. I know that the 'real beast' already has attacked them; making them into more of monsters then of people. Even if they try, it will be impossible to be purged of the evil. When Ralph was the leader of the tribe there was no torturing littluns; but with Jack leader of his own tribe, there is. From where I was, all I could do was watch as Jack and a few other hunters beat up a littlun named Wilfred.

Also when Ralph was leader no one stole or attacked each other while they were sleeping. When Jack and his tribe needed fire they did attack Jack and the others. Instead of asking them to use some of their fire or doing something rational, Jack, Maurice, and Roger all went together fight the few people left of Ralph's tribe. It was dark and when I looked closer I saw Ralph punching Eric over and over in the face, until Eric pulled his knee up between Ralph's legs. It was too dark for them to see what they were doing, so while they thought that they were fighting Jack's tribe, they were actually fighting each other. When the fighting had died down, it was an illumination to find out that Jack had taken the advantage to steal Piggy's remaining glass. I feel disgusted with Jack, I always knew there was darkness and evil within him. Now the theological beast is showing himself more and more inside of Jack. Pretty soon there will be nothing left of Jack; only evil.

Reasoning

1. When there are flies in Simon's secret place they prefer the dead pig over the blood that is coming out of Simon's nose.

2. When Simon awakes from this seizure he decides to ignore the LOTF's warning and go to the camp where the boys are.

3. When Simon finds the figure on the mountainside he figures out that it is just a dead man that is stuck in its string of the parachute. He then untangles the parachute strings so that the aviator isn't stuck in that one spot.

4. Piggy suggests that he and Ralph go to the party that Jack is throwing.

5. When Ralph and Piggy enter the party that Jack sets up it is awkward at first. Then Piggy gets accidentally burned and he hollers in pain. Then when everyone is laughing they accept them into their party and gives them meat from their kill.

6. While at the party Jack wants Ralph and Piggy to join his tribe. Ralph rejects the offer and says he'll call a meeting with the conch, but Jack declares that the conch doesn't count on his tribe or side of the island.

7. Toward the end of the party it starts to rain from a thunderstorm.

8. The boys chant Kill the beast. Slit its throat. Spill its blood as they dance around in a circle.

9. Simon crawls out of the forest with the secret of the beast.

I believe that Jack is responsible for Simon's death. "Do our dance, common do our dance." He ran stumbling through the thick sand to the open space of rock beyond the fire. Between the flashes of lightning the air was dark and terrible, and the boys followed him clamorously. In this quote it shows how Jack instigated the other boys to get all railed up and stated getting them all crazed with the hunt feeling. If he hadn't of then they wouldn't have had the intent to kill when Simon appeared. Now out of the terror rose another desire; thick, urgent, blind. Kill the pig. Slit it's throat. Spill his blood. This part shows how from a little play and rough housing, that Jack started, can turn into a blood thirsty hoard. Those are just a few reasons why Jack is responsible for Simon's death. If it wasn't for his instigating the boys to get all crazed and adrenaline pumped then they would've had enough common sense to realize it was another boy.

A change in the tribe

Jack was talking about finding the beast with Ralph and Piggy. He started talking about how they aren’t afraid when there isn’t light out, and that the Hunters could go out and get it. Then Ralph made a comment on how they were just boys with sticks. Which in turn made Jack furious, and from that he called a meeting for the boys. He starts talking about how the beast is a hunter, but also starts off lying about how Ralph was a coward. Jack spouted out all this stuff about how Ralph stayed back when he and Simon went on ahead. Feeding all these lies to everyone that Ralph isn’t fit to be chief. So he tries to turn everyone against Ralph so that he could become chief. But when he asks who thinks Ralph shouldn’t be chief, no one raises their hand. He becomes even more enraged from their response that he storms off saying that he’ll do things on his own since no one chose him. It was all a big surprise to all of them so they were too stunned to do anything about it. Except for piggy that was ecstatic about Jack leaving. He was also able to give them advice on how to get a fire going and more plans to better help them survive. He also helped them build a new fire. While building a new signal fire almost all the older boys slipped away into the forest after Jack. While leaving Ralph, Simon, Piggy, and some of the littluns.
In my opinion this was the most interesting part in the chapter because even though no one voted for Jack all the older boys went with him. I’m pretty sure they went with Jack because he got the first pig and fed them pork, but they didn’t want that many rules either. What I’m not sure of is why they didn’t pick him as chief when he asked. If they had then they would have been following his rules too and they would have everyone with them. I think that all the people that went with Jack are relying on their evil natures instead of their rational nature.

Goodbye Jack Merridew

Perspective; Piggy

At first Ralph was like a prefect=, but now I noticed that his hair isn't as glossy as it was before, his nails aren't as long and clean as they used to be, and his teeth are really dirty too. I mean I know that all of us are like that but he is more different then he was when he first went here. I heard that Ralph had speared a pig and they were all acting demoniac toward Robert and reenacting the scene with him as the pig.

When they are done playing Jack says that they could continue doing that reenactment each time they kill a pig. Robert mentions that they could get some one to act as a pig, so Jack replied saying a littlun. I think that if they do that they might actually kill someone, if they do then things are going to get crazy.

The boys are also saying that the beast is real, they also say they have proof. The things that they say is proof is that they are hearing noises that can only be explained as the beast and also shadows and things as it too. But then there was this creature, we aren't really sure what it is, but they are pretty sure its the beast or an ape. They don't even know if its real, they are too afraid. They are being really gullible because it could just be their imagination telling them that its the beast while it could just be something else.

They were all being monsters when they were playing the game after they speared the pig. I believe that they would do that type of things. I don't know if they are going to go mad and stuff but I don't really think they are going to stay the same.

Fear from fear

Ralph cries, “If only they could get a message to us…if only they could send us something grown up….a sign or something,” (Golding, 83). When Ralph asks for a message or a sign from grownups, a dead aviator falls from the sky in a parachute. His parachute makes a noise that makes the boys think that its a beastie. I don't really think that its a good sign, or anything like that. I think that its just showing us that we aren't responsible and are eventually going to lose our minds.

The boys don't know that its a dead human because they are convinced that its the beastie and they are also letting the fear get to their minds. They also don't know its a human because they are a afraid that the 'beastie' might get them.

Sam 'n Eric were the first to find the 'beastie'. They heard a strange noise from the parachute, and they automatically thought it was the beastie and that it tried to get them. The beastie chasing them was all in their imagination and they got all the other boys hipped up.Sam 'n Eric describe the beastie as a winged beast that is dark and mysterious. They also say that it is trying to east them and kill them.

At first the boys were kind of excited when they went to get the beastie but once they got into the real situation, they panicked a bit. The littluns were scared and the biguns were scared a bit too but didn't show it. I don't think that there really is a beastie. I think that its all in our heads and that we shouldn't let trivial things get in our heads. I know this because we haven't had any proof of it and we haven't been attacked before this and the twins could have just seen something.

I think the beastie really is their fear that they wont get rescued. Also that they might not live to see their families again. It might not be just that though, they may just be making up excuses for us to pay attention to them.

Ludicrous Meeting

Perspective; Jack

After we caught a pig, Ralph called a meeting about all this ludicrous things that don't really matter. He was going off about how things need to change. He started talking about how the water wasn't being brought to the places it was suppose to go. Then he talked about the huts, how some were not that safe, and how everyone only helped on the first one. Then how the littluns aren't taking a short in the right places.

He ended with the talk of the "Beastie" which I knew there was none so I made that point out really quickly. Sometime during that talk all the littluns started to do some lamentation but it died down in a bit. It just sounded like a bunch of discursive nonsense to me.

During the meeting Ralph said how things were falling apart. I don't really think things are falling apart, but the boys aren't listening to Ralph anymore. They are also treating things that have importance to them as if they don't matter. They wander around playing and everything. It seems as if they aren't using decorum toward Ralph anymore. I don't really mind as long as they stay out of my way, and obey when I ask something of them.

Also during the meeting there was a mention of the littluns crying in their sleep. Mostly because of the fear of the beastie getting them. Others have nightmares about the kreepers and such. I think most of them miss their parents and hide it as nightmares when they cry. It's not really my concern though.

There was a particular littlun, Percival Wemys Madison. He tended to through up a lamentation a lot about the beastie. He also seemed to be loosing his mind. Some of the older kids tend to mess with him, others pay no heed. He was one of the littluns that started the whole 'beastie' mess. He was mostly afraid of the kreepers or the beastie getting to him.

Simon asked us what was the dirtiest thing about the human nature during the meeting. The dirtiest thing about the human nature in my opinion is that they are too sensitive to each other. They hold back when they don't need to and they let their emotions sway their opinions. When I hold back the memory stays jeeringly at me, as if I've done something wrong.

I don't particularly like Ralph since he became leader. He isn't doing anything about it, just complaining, and telling us what we aren't doing. He just complains and complains. Especially when I do something that is important, he goes of saying its horrible. If he hadn't of found the conch then he wouldn't have been leader. It would have been me.

Lost hope

Perspective; Ralph

Out of the most of the things that I'm having trouble with adjusting myself to is the working. It feels weird to have almost all the other boys not working and me working my butt off for them. It doesn't seem really fair sometimes but I can't really blame them. This is a beautiful island.

The littluns are doing little to help with setting up life here, but I can't expect much from them. They are small and don't have a very good attention span. They spend their time eating any fruit they can find, bathing, playing with each other, and so many other stuff that I don't know of, I can't watch them all the time.

All the boys left to hunt for pigs and they had painted their faces so that the pigs don't see them. It seems like they are losing control over themselves and reverting to the wild side. They are going mad little by little. When they paint their faces they seem as if they are a totally different group of people.

While the boys were away they left the fire unattended. While a ship passes by the island the fire is out. So there is no smoke for them to see. We could have been saved but they went off for a pig. Then the ship left with out us.

The fire went out because all the boys went off to kill a pig. I mean, yes, I craved the meat too, but it didn't matter to me as much as being saved did. They all left it and it was Jack's fault that they all left. It was also his responsibility to keep it going. When all the boys go all rowdy again I know that I have too call a meeting. It has to bring their attention that their behavior is out of control.

Day by the bathing pool

Perspective; Piggy

We are creating shelters for the little ones and everyone. We are doing this so that we don't have to sleep on the sand and that we are protected form the animals that are out there.

We each had to do a specific job that we were assigned to do. They were to gather supplies, help build the shelters, hunt for food, ECT. The little 'uns and most of the older boys didn't get much done though. We were just hanging around, eating, playing, and bathing.

I think that the most important task for survival is gathering food and such to satisfy ourselves and keep us strong so that we can work more. We don't die from starvation.

Simon is a silent boy that helps a lot though. He faints a lot too which is hindering his work and us to have to help him. He is tan, skinny, and he knows what he is doing.

What do you think will happen on this island if you don’t get rescued soon? On the other hand I think that if we don't get rescued soon then we might go chaotic. Lose ourselves to the wild and never find our way back. More of us might die too, and that wouldn't be good.

The wind is so bitter; it bites at me, mocking me.

The boys they don’t care

They do what ever they please

I’m smart; I know what I am doing

Don’t hate me because I’m fat

Listen to me, I need to be heard

My ideas can help us, maybe even save us

But they don’t care

They just do what they please

Uh oh

Perspective; Simon

I think that this island is really good for us. Since there is fruits and pigs for us to eat. It also has a bunch of things we could use for shelter and everything like that.

A couple of kids were talking about a beastie. I think its just a really big pig or something along the lines of that. I think it symbolizes that we need to stick together and listen. If we don't then we could get killed by it. I feel a bit threatened by it, I mean it could be real, but there is a chance that it isn't, so I don't really know what to think.

My plan to be rescued is set up something huge that can be seen from far away that says S.O.S or something along the lines of that. If we don't get rescued though, I wouldn't mind staying here for a while. It's really cool here.

How did you start a fire and what happens to the fire? At first we decided to make a fire to signal people if they were looking for us. We gathered a bunch of dead wood and put them on top of the mountain. We didn't have any matches so we pinched piggy's glasses. He complained a lot. We got the fire going and everything but then things went wrong. The sourrounding trees caught on fire and it turned into a huge fire. A little boy w/ a mark on his face was in there, and he died. It was a sad time.

How are you different from all the other boys? Even though all of us sped off to set the fire I know I'm different. If I wasn't so caught up in it all I would have stopped to think this all through. I know I could have saved the little 'uns that died if I had been thinking. I'm not like most of the kids there, I can think things through and do smart things.

When I go to sleep I feel a bit excited about what the next day will hold, but other then that I feel indifferent. I mean,ya, we are on an island, cool, not really a big deal.

The Sound Of the Shell

Choir Stand In!
Jack's perspective.

We are on this island that has a efflorescence coral reef that is only on about a half of the island. It is also out in the middle of nowhere and now it has a scar in it from where our plane crashed. We were on our way to a safe place so that the War wouldn't affect us. But our plane crashed when it was attacked, and we don't know if anyone is looking for us. We don't know how long we are going to stay here too.
My name is Jack and I am the leader of the Choir which are now the hunters. I am technically the co-leader of all the boys. Even though the proffer wasn't there I got second place in the vote so I am now the co-leader.
There are no adults on this island, but there was a pilot. Which I'm pretty is dead now. We didn't find any source of life besides the animals on this island, so its probably inhabited.
The leader, Ralph, has a conch. That has the power to call all the boys to a meeting. It is incredulous that he has it. He has the power to control everything that everyone does. I believe that the conch is really important to us, so it shouldn't be in the hands of someone like him. It should be me.
The choirs job is to hunt for food for everyone. I believe that they will not be incredulous on there jobs, since they learned from me.
I feel that I should have been elected as leader since am not a lazy person, so I pay attention to all the intricacies of the forest. I also have a lot of experience in leading people.
I know I said I was looking for an opportunity to strike at the piglet, but I know I wasn't ready to take a life. I felt it was a enormity to kill it and I couldn't. Next time I won't think, I will just strike.
That is all that happened that had importance so far so this is where I am going to end.

What would i do if i was stuck on an island?

Well the things that I would bring would be a bunch of saline to keep the water I drink clean, if I found any water. Another thing is a machete to keep me and my companions safe and to cut things down if I ever need to. The last thing I would bring would some matches to light things faster when needed.

The people that I would bring would be; max haggard because he knows a lot of stuff and is smart like that, Rachel Laundry because she’s my best friend and we have each other to keep company, and some random person that says they’ll come w/ us just for the heck of it.

I think that if we got stranded then we would be on a beach so I would split into groups and go around the beach to see how big it is. Then we meet back on the other side of the island and tell what we found. If there was anything worth investigating then we would go check it out.

If there isn’t anything interesting there then we would go and try and get some water and try to find some food. Also to try and set up a camp just in case we were to stay there for a while. Knowing how long it usually takes we would do those things then we would do things to how much we need it to survive.

I would also try to make a signal fire or something to alert people if they are looking for us. It would have to be pretty big to alert searchers far away but tame too. If we stayed there longer then a week, then I think that I would go crazy or something to be honest. I'm not really a outdoorsy person, and I don’t have that much experience in surviving out in the wilderness other than the books I've read.
