QUESTION 1: 16. Which character would you like (or not like) to be your friend? Why?
RESPONSE 1: I would love to have Magnus Bane as a friend. He has a great sense of humor, he's a warlock, he's gay, and (in my opinion) he's awesome. I think that the way he runs things is pretty cool and laid back, I would love to try it out or something. I also think that being friends with a warlock would have its advantages and disadvantages. He could help me curse my enemies, win fights, and just anything in general. If I got on his bad side though, I don't think it would be good. I love how gay people express themselves especially when they aren't afraid to just come out and say that they are gay. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just love how Magnus is.
QUESTION 2: 13. Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?
RESPONSE 2: I would most like to be like Clary, because she's just so naive about herself, but she has a sense of rightness to her actions. She doesn't really care much for how other people think of her and she would help nearly anyone in a situation. She also doesn't obsess about her appearance, she's fine the way she is, and she's happy that way. I want to be able to just go out and do what is right, just like Clary does. She has some difficulties on deciding on the right thing to do, but she always ends up doing it better. It would be really helpful and better for me because I tend to do the things that I want to, instead of what is right. She's a great person, and I would want that in myself in general.

QUESTION 1: 10. What advice would you give to a particular character? Why?
RESPONSE 1: I would give Isabelle some advise. I would tell her to watch what she says to Clary, especially when it's about Jace. I would tell her that because she is always in their business and making things worse sometimes. Also because she doesn't fully understand the situations that they are going through. She may know what's going on, but she hasn't experienced it herself so she doesn't know how it feels. She doesn't need to put her 2 cents in on the things that concern them. It would be better if she focused on her own problems and life.
QUESTION 2: 18. What has surprised you in the book? Why?
RESPONSE 2: The thing that has surprised me so far, is that a real angel has appeared in the book named Ithuriel. Yes, he may have been; old, beaten, blind, and dirty, but his wings were pure and beautiful. It didn't surprise me that they found Ithuriel in the Valentine's cellar, he'd been a cruel man. It did surprise me that when Clary dispelled the runes that kept him captive that Ithuriel had plunged Jace's stele* into his heart. I knew that he was depressed, old, and away from heaven, but I didn't think that he would do that. I guess that was the only way Ithuriel could get back to where he belonged.
Flames burst from the wound, spreading outward from the blade. The angel's body shimmered into white flame, the chains on its wrist burning scarlet, like iron left too long in a fire. Clary thought of medieval paintings of saints consumed in the blaze of holy ecstasy- and the angel's wings flew wide and white before they, too, caught and blazed up, a lattice of shimmering fire.

In class writing response
Choice 2 - Pretend you are one of the characters from the book and write a journal entry in their perspective. Your entry could be about events that happened one day or over a certain time period.
Perspective; Jace
I couldn't believe it, she made it here, but how? She walked in on a really awkward moment, Aline and I kissing. Why did she have to come right then? The Angel must hate me, my life has been hell ever since I found out she was my sister. I said some horrid things to her, I had to get her out of Idris. It hurt so much to see her expression, especially since I knew it was because of me. What hurt the most was that she told me that I was just like my Father.
To make matters worse I find out that Simon is being held captive because I brought him here, a Downworlder, a vampire to be exact. If any one else had done it, then he would've been sent home with out a problem. I can't stand being Valentine's son, no one will trust me, especially not the Clave. Having to heal my hand like a mundane, human, is just bugging me. Since I broke the window with my hand, Alec is making me heal on my own with out any runes. He says it'll teach me a lesson, I highly doubt it though. I was kind of mad still so I let it out on him, and admitted knowing that he liked me and putting him in a situation to prove it. Him and his warlock need to work things out fast, it's becoming annoying.
Well I have to go now. I have to find Simon before the new Inquisitor starves him to death in that cell. If I don't then Clary would hate me forever, and besides I'm still held responsible for him.
